31-year-old man accused of stealing N3M

Police have sued the suspect on charges of stealing the aforementioned sum with his partners who are currently fugitives.

A 31-year-old man, Temitayo Akinwumi, was arraigned by the police before a court of the main magistrates of Ado-Ekiti on charges of stealing the sum of N3 million.

The accused, homeless, is tried on charges of theft.

The police prosecutor, Insp Oriyomi Akinwale, told the court that the defendant and others in general committed the crime on September 20 around Secretariat Road in Ado-Ekiti.

Akinwale claimed that the defendant and others in general stole the sum of N3 million belonging to a certain Mr. Yusuf Wasiu.

He told the court that the complainant went to withdraw money at the bank and met with the cashier, who usually assisted him, and asked him to fill his check and return for his money.

The prosecutor added that after the complainant left the bank with his money, he was followed by some strangers who later broke his car and took the money away.

According to him, the offense violates Section 390 of the Criminal Code, Ekiti State Laws, 2012.

The prosecutor asked the court for a postponement to allow him to study the file and present his witnesses.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the preferred charge against him.

The defendant’s attorney, Mr. Oluwasola Olanrewaju, urged the court to bail his client, with the promise that he would not skip the bail.

The chief magistrate, Mr. Michael Faola, granted the bail to the accused in the sum of N200,000, with two sureties in the same sum.

He later postponed the case to December 7 for a hearing.
