3,906 prisoners are still fugitives after the attacks on the prison – Aregbesola

Aregbesola said only 984 detainees have been captured of the 4,369 detainees who fled the centers from 2020 to date.

Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, the interior minister, revealed that 3,906 inmates who fled from various correctional centers in the country are still on the run.

This was revealed by the minister during a media briefing organized by the Presidential Communication Media Team at the State House, in Abuja, on Thursday 11 November.

Aregbesola said only 984 detainees have been captured of the 4,369 detainees who fled the centers from 2020 to date.

The minister also revealed that biometric data of all detainees in custody in the country have been taken and it is expected that it would help track down and re-arrest detainees who have fled following a collaboration with the international police (INTERPOL).

He said; “How long will they be able to continue running away from the state? The state is a patient bird. You can run but you can never hide. ” “We have their biometric data. Whenever and wherever they appear to be doing any business, their coverage will be skipped ”.

Aregbesola also revealed that 465 inmates are conducting various degree programs across the country, adding that 85 of them are conducting postgraduate programs, including four who are doing doctoral programs.

It said 560 inmates were enrolled for the WAEC / NECO exams, while 2,300 were enrolled for adult literacy classes at different custodial centers.
