A makeup artist’s tragedy, Elvina was burned to death in Bayelsa state by a jealous lover trying to kill her ex.
Elvina and her parish priest were at home when the accident happened.
Elvina Japhet Abilo, a makeup artist along with her shepherd, was burned to death after a jealous man, suspecting that her lover was unfaithful, set fire to her home in Igboogen Apie, Yenagoa, LGA of Bayelsa.
According to The Nation, 40-year-old Etifa Obukulubu set fire to his girlfriend, Wilberforce’s house. The incident took place on Saturday 31 October at about 3 am.
Pastor Henry, who is said to have worked with the New Baptist Church, and his assistant Elvina were allegedly staying at the house when the accident happened.
It was discovered that Wilberforce had fled his home for the victims, who reportedly came from out of state on an evangelical mission.
Community residents said the suspect, who is a commercial driver, waited for his girlfriend Wilberforce to return home before committing the heinous act.
They argued that the suspect, seeing his girlfriend with a man and another girl, got angry and set fire to the house.
“He (the suspect) waited for them to enter the house and used the fuel to light a fire around the house.
But he didn’t know that Wilberforce had left the house to go to bed with another friend.
“It’s a pity that the pastor and his assistant died in the fire. I was told that the pastor was invited to preach in Yenagoa and the suspect’s girlfriend offered her a house where they could sleep so that they would leave early the next morning, ”the source said.
Bayelsa State Police Department spokesman Asinim Butswat confirmed the incident and said an investigation was ongoing.
