A man in hot soup after selling cannabis to a “buyer” who did not know he was dealing with an NDLEA official

The man, whose name is Muritala Babarinde, was sentenced to a year in prison, The PUNCH reported.

The man was sentenced Wednesday by the Federal Supreme Court of Osogbo, Osun State for possession of 4.7 kg of Indian cannabis.

The convict was detained in the village of Akinlalu, Modakeke, by agents of the National Drug Enforcement Agency.

Rumor has it that Babarinda, who was being followed by the NDLEA, sold Indian cannabis to a secret agent who approached him before he was eventually arrested.

Prosecutor Ogaga Azuigo called three witnesses who were NDLEA officials.

The convict said he only smoked Indian cannabis and denied that he had two bags of the substance, according to the NDLEA.

But one of the witnesses called by the prosecution said that the convict was selling him Indian cannabis when he pretended to be an illegal drug user.

The defendant’s lawyer, Mr D.D. Adegbola asked the court to show leniency to his client.

Expressing his opinion, Judge Peter Lifou sentenced Babarinda to one year in prison.

The judge said the jail sentence would begin in February 2020, when he was first indicted on charges.
