What should have been a vibrant Christmas holiday went wrong on Friday after 14-year-old Samson Akingbade drowned in a hotel pool in Ijako, Sango Ota, Ogun state.

A source told the Sunday PUNCH that some angry young people blamed operator mismanagement for Akingbad’s death and attempted to vandalize the hotel.…
He said: “The boy was swimming in the hotel and drowned. As a result, some young people broke into the hotel to create problems, but the police responded immediately to ease tensions and restore normal life.
“The boy went to the hotel with his friends. The problem is there is no lifeguard in the hotel. If they had a lifeguard, this death could have been avoided. “
Another source explained that the hotel was abruptly closed to avoid unrest, adding that the boy’s body was evacuated by Sango police department.
He stated, “I found out that the boy and his friends were from Sango, but I do not know their address. This police intervention relieved the tension. The young people were unhappy that the hotel did not have a lifeguard who could watch the boy drown and rescue him. “
Abimbola State Police spokesman Oyemi confirmed Akingbade’s death, adding that her body had been sent to the morgue for an autopsy.
He said: “14-year-old Samson Akingbade was at the hotel with his friends. They were sailing when he drowned. Some of the guys wanted to attack the hotel, but the police immediately took control of the situation and restored normalcy. “
