Anambra’s retirees threaten to go on hunger strike for unpaid tips
retirees in Anambra state have threatened to go on a hunger strike over unpaid tips.
Retired State President Anthony Ugozor reported this Sunday to our correspondent in Avka, the capital of Anambra State.
Claiming that the state government owes four years of tips to the state’s retirees, Ugozor said retirees will hold a meeting early next year to decide on the matter.
He said, “We don’t know what to do with it again. You know that you are more on active duty, so the government is frivolous about our case, because it knows that we can no longer be involved in labor disputes.
“We might think about a hunger strike after our meeting. The only problem that we can face in connection with a hunger strike is whether it will harm our health at our age. But the participants will decide this at our meeting.
“I received my December pension before Christmas. We thank Governor Willie Obiano for that; he pays his pension regularly, but pension is not all that pensioners need. We are dying to pieces, the governor must pay us a tip. “
He said the state government has not paid retirees in state tips since 2017.
