Armed men killed two riot policemen at a checkpoint in Taraba
On Monday, gunmen killed two riot police officers at a checkpoint in Dogon Gawa, Takum local government area in Taraba state.
Local government council executive chairman Takuma Shiban Chikari, who confirmed the incident, told reporters that gunmen suspected of having a ban had taken the shotguns from the killed police officers.
According to him, the incident occurred when two police officers stayed for security at the checkpoint, while their colleagues went to the city for food.
Tikari stated: “The militants arrived on motorcycles and opened fire on two policemen, killing them. The attackers also took the rifles.
“In recent months, there have been numerous cases of attacks of this type by bandits who disguised themselves in the military uniform of the Joint Special Forces.
“These attacks, especially today, have exacerbated tensions in the area.”
This also happened when he condemned attacks on security personnel in the area in recent months.
Attempts to find out the reaction of the public relations officer of the state police command, ASP David Misal, were unsuccessful because he did not return his calls.
