Australian High Commissioner Claire Ireland apologizes for commenting on #EndSARS protest
Australian High Commissioner Claire Ireland has apologized for the “sad” comment made regarding the #EndSARS protest.
Claire Ireland tweeted to advise Australian citizens to avoid protests and follow the advice of local authorities. He tweeted;
“MSG REVISION. Protests continue in Abuja, Lagos and elsewhere in Nigeria. Avoid these protests and follow the advice of local authorities. “
However, after being withdrawn from the tweet, she apologized and stated that she had no intention of calling the protests violent.
She added;
“I would like to apologize for the previous message. We didn’t mean to imply that the protests were violent in general. We respect people’s right to peaceful protest. “
