It should be reminded that in the morning of November 8, Ilham Aliyev made a statement on the liberation of the city of Shusha after 28 years of Armenian occupation. According to the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry, up to 800 lens of Armenian armed formations were killed during the military operation.
Meanwhile, the Armenians all Sunday denied the information about the fall of Shushi. Representative of the Armenian Defense Ministry Artsrun Hovhannisyan stated that “fierce battles were going on throughout the day in Shusha and the adjacent territories, on the roads leading to the city.”
And in the direction towards Berdzor and Martuni, the Armenians allegedly even managed to stop the advance of the Azerbaijani troops. In turn, Baku is urged not to believe Yerevan’s statements about the continuation of battles around the strategically important settlement of Shusha.
Despite mutual accusations of providing false information about control over the city as of the night of November 9, neither side published a video from this village.
Sources say that in the battle for Shusha, the Azerbaijanis used specially trained units of the mountain special forces, and the operation itself began on the night of November 4.
First, the Khankendi-Shusha road was taken under fire control. Then, assault groups entered the city from the direction of the village of Dashalty, which entered into a contact battle with the Armenians. They fought in Shusha for two days before the approach of the main motorized units of the Azerbaijani army. Already on November 7, according to Baku, the Azerbaijanis controlled the city, repelling the counterattacks of the Armenians. And by the morning of November 8, the liberation of the city was announced.
Meanwhile, after the news of the liberation of Shushi, the Armenian population of Stepanakert (Khankendi) began to leave the capital of Karabakh en masse. According to a number of Azerbaijani sources, the fighting has come close to Stepanakert. Cannonade sounds in the vicinity of the city.
On Sunday evening, the Azerbaijani command announced a new success in Karabakh: “The enemy fled, leaving some lines,” said in Baku.
According to the Azerbaijanis, during the offensive operation in the Khojavend direction of the front, the Armenian military formations were dealt heavy blows.
In the Khojavend direction of the front, according to the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry, “the enemy who suffered heavy losses fled, leaving some lines.”
