Bandits ambushed Nigerian soldiers in Katsina, killed one
One Nigerian soldier was killed by suspected bandits in an ambush in Katsina state, leaving others injured.
According to SaharaReporters, Operation Sahel Sanity troops were responding to a distress call in the village of Discuru in the Faskari local government area of Katsina state when armed militants opened fire on them.
Interim Defense Media Director Brigadier General Bobby Onyuko confirmed the incident in a statement on Sunday.
Onieuko said that three of the bandits were killed and the others hid in the bushes.
He also explained that the troops continued to dominate the village and the environment to rob the bandits of a truce, noting that, unfortunately, the soldier paid the highest price in trying to rescue one of the nursing mothers rescued in the heat of the clash.
Onieuko said: “The incident was recorded when looting bandits stormed the village on several motorcycles, shooting from time to time in order to intimidate local residents and loot valuables. Upon the arrival of the troops. they engaged the criminals in a brutal firefight, forcing them to retreat in disarray.
“After the meeting, the three bandits were neutralized by the troops, many others supposedly escaped with gunshot wounds of varying degrees.
“During the exploitation phase, two more bodies of bandits were found on the retreat path. Even after the rally, the criminals rescued three women and their children, who had previously been abducted by bandits. “
