The bandits burned the CVD of Abakaliki
The alleged indigenous people of Biafra (IPOB) attacked the central police station in Abakaliki, the capital of Ebony state, yesterday.
The station, located along the Abakaliki-Enugu highway and near the international market, was set on fire by IPOB members.
They also destroyed and burned cars, tricycles and motorcycles in the compound.
IPOB Leader, Mr. Nnamdi Kanu, invited its members to host a clean-up / protest event around major cities in the Southeast and South-South geographic areas.
The exercise took place peacefully in the Ikvo local government area, where security forces allowed them to move around without collision.
But in Abakaliki, members of a banned group, clearly identifying themselves as members of the group, attacked a police station at about 15:00.
They claimed that some of their members were killed by the police during riots near the station last week.
Many shops and businesses have suddenly closed.
Governor David Umahi left a reception at the Old Government House and returned to the new government as soon as the incident was reported.
Police Commissioner Philip Macou confirmed the attack on the station.
According to him, there are no victims yet.
The KP also categorically denied that any of the attackers were killed in the clashes last week.
Instead, he said police later lost one of their officers, injured during the riots last week.
“We are the ones who are abused. One of two policemen who were injured last week died, ”he said.
IPOB spokeswoman Emma Powerful said the attackers were not part of the separatist group.
