Because I invited the soldiers to Oryol
Following ongoing hostilities in parts of the Orlu Senatorial District of Imo State, State Governor Senator Hope Uzodimma insisted that his administration would not yield to pressure from those urging soldiers to leave the crisis zone.
The governor said he called on Eagle soldiers to restore calm to the area after members of the banned indigenous peoples of Biafra (IPOB) killed several police officers and innocent residents of the area.
Uzodimma, who provided explanations through Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice Barr. Siprain Akaolisa, speaking at a press conference in Owerri, said the narrative of the military killing innocent people was intended to shift the focus from IPOB’s despicable activities to Eagle.
According to the governor, the government discovered that the IPOB had deliberately tried to attack the residents of Orel and the government on the pretext that they were looking for the Fulani shepherds.
The attacks began during the #Endsars protests last year, he said.
Uzodimma said: “The attacks on police stations and killings of police officers during #Endsars were carried out by the IPOB, not by young people protesting with the sole purpose of stealing and stealing weapons.
“Now they are using this weapon to destroy the Eagle.
“They killed 10 police officers, the important son of Orlu, Ignatius Obieza and Emmanuel Okeke (Soludo) and decommissioned their Hilux cars.
“IPOB has also shot and killed four Muslims doing business in Orel.
“IPOB said they are looking for pastors, but the victims they killed before the crisis were they pastors?
“We have heard Nnamdi Kanu celebrate the activities of his people in Orel, who succeed by killing innocent citizens. There are no Fulani shepherds in Orel.
“So we asked ourselves what color IPOB is trying to give to the attack on Eagle?
“This is why our government decided to invite the military to track the IPOB and their so-called ESN.
“We found the camp set up by the IPOB in Umutanz, Orel and sent the police to remove them. But it so happened that they attacked the cops and killed two of them. It was after they killed these police officers that the government had to involve the military.
“It was not easy for the military to push them out of this place. But the military succeeded. So they retaliated and killed the innocent.
“They also moved to Udah in Orsu LGA, a camp on the border between Imo and Anambra states. The place is a very depressing rut that no one can easily get into.
“Over the past two weeks, surveillance has been monitoring this site, and over 200 people have been trained in this camp. The military had to deploy their arsenal to reduce the number of IPOBs present. “
The governor expressed surprise that people can demand the withdrawal of soldiers from Orel.
“We cannot do this. We cannot cross our arms so that these guys kill people every day. “
