Biography of Oye Ovoleva, elected member of the U.S. Congress

Oops – first generation Nigerian American. His parents, who were born and raised in Nigeria, raised him with two principles: the value of community service and early exposure to science. This exposure became a love of science, culminating in the achievement
PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences.

After completing his Pharmacy Degree, Oi moved to Washington DC to pursue a pharmacy and influence society. Since 2014, he has been a member of RESET, a coalition of STEM professionals who volunteer in public schools to engage students in hands-on science experiments. its goal is to inspire young people to pursue careers in STEM and become the scientists of tomorrow.

Community lawyer
In 2018, Oye was elected Commissioner for his Southeast District of Columbia District. In this position, he served as a liaison between the community and local government.

Oy worked to raise resources for the poor by advising DC lawmakers through ongoing community feedback.

Some of Oye’s most notable achievements are increasing the number of science enrichment programs in primary schools in the southeast, adding road safety measures, and contributing to the establishment of a day care center for the elderly in the neighborhood.

As a commissioner, Oi realized the value of an advocate and resource to society.
