Suspected Boko Haram members attacked Geidam, a city in Yobe state, on Tuesday evening.
The attack was still ongoing at the time of publication, around 6:30 pm.
The rebel fire caused many residents to panic and hide in the bushes, while others hid in their homes.
One resident who managed to speak to PREMIUM TIMES in a frightened voice said the shots were huge.

Geidam is located about 200 km from Damaturu, the capital of Yobe state and one of the border cities between Nigeria and the Republic of Niger. It also borders the state of Borno to the north.
