Boko Haram kidnaps Shiroro, Rafi LGA in the state of Niger

Boko Haram terrorists took control of five communities in the Rafi and Shiroto local government areas of the state of Niger, a state official said.

This was revealed on Monday by Alhaji Ahmed Matane, secretary of the state government, in an interview with the Nigerian news agency (NAN) in Minna.

He explained that the Boko Haram insurgents are fully in command in Hanawanka, Madaka, Rafi LGA and Kurebe, Gussau, Farina Kuka in Shiroro LGA, forcing rural dwellers to migrate to safer land.

He explained that terrorists move freely in the affected areas, brandishing sophisticated and threatening weapons.

Matane said the state has already notified security agencies of appropriate urgent security measures.

“We have spent over N 2 billion on security agencies in the ongoing fight against banditry, kidnapping and other criminal activities over the past two years.

“We will continue to give priority attention to the well-being of deployed security personnel to enable them to wipe out all those involved in illegal acts for peace, progress and political stability.

“We have equally appealed to residents to provide reliable information on the movement of bad characters to the nearest security services for security action.

“We have also reached out to traditional and religious leaders and stakeholders to mobilize residents to support the government’s effort in the ongoing fight against criminal elements,” he said.

Matane also acknowledged and applauded the efforts of the Niger state government to address the threat.

He said the government will not stop at the oars to end the security challenges the state faces.
