Boko Haram Raises the Flag on Mars in Borno State

According to military sources, the rebels, believed to be members of Boko Haram, raised their flag in parts of the local government of Mars in Borno state.

During the week, militants repeatedly attacked local authorities.

On Friday, rebels attacked the nearby local government of Dikva.

Sources said they were driven back by combined air and ground forces during Operation Lafia Dole in hours of combat.

In the meantime, the attack turned away many of the inhabitants of Dikva, who fled into the bushes in search of shelter.

The insurgents also ambushed reinforcements from theater headquarters in Maiduguri.
The attack on Mars came just two months after the Borno state government relocated 500 families to New Mars.

The number of victims of the attack is still unknown, but since then, some soldiers wounded by Mars have been evacuated to Maiduguri, where they are currently being treated.
