The President, Major General Muhammad Bukhari (retired), approved the payment of the new minimum wage to pensioners.
This was announced by the executive secretary of the Office of the Transitional Pension Agreement, Dr. Chioma Ejikeme, at a press conference in Abuja on Friday.
He said that with the approval of the President, PTAD has the right to initiate increases in all retirement benefits in accordance with the approved model.
Edjikeme said that the adjustment of the new pension payment will begin in May 2021, adding that the payment of arrears will cover the period of the introduction of the minimum wage.
“The arrears for April 2019 will be paid along with the monthly retirement benefit, starting with the salary for May 2021.”
He said a statement was released on April 22 to inform the public of the president’s sincerity in making the PTAD adjustments to retirement benefits.
“I emphasize that the Nigerian Pensioners’ Union has no reason to protest, because the issue has been resolved.
