Bukhari plans to block some politicians – Junaid
Dr. Junaid Mohammed, a senior statesman and federal legislator in the Second Republic, said on Tuesday that President Muhammadu Bukhari and his entourage have completed plans to prevent some Nigerians from participating in the 2023 general election.
Calling on those behind the conspiracy to abandon the idea, he said it was completely undemocratic and unconstitutional and could seriously jeopardize national democracy.
Speaking to the Daily Independent, Junaid, who declined to name participants, said some people have taken over the All Progressives Congress (APC) in government and are working to use the party to advance their personal interests.
Denouncing the dissolution of APC chapters, local, state and zonal structures, Junaid said that party members have elevated President Muhammad Bukhari to the position of a demigod whose authority cannot be questioned.
He said that the latest development of the APC shows that this is nothing more than a sinister plan.
“There are people who are determined to perpetuate their power, and there is also a group in the APC, especially in the Bukhari region, that is determined to deprive some people of their constitutional right to vote. I don’t want to name names, but every Nigerian who is alive today, including a child, knows that there are advanced plans to prevent some people from participating in the upcoming presidential elections in 2023. “
“This cannot happen in a democracy, except, of course, what we practice, this is not a democracy, but a joke. In a democracy, you must allow people to vote, and people who are party members must be given a level playing field to exercise their rights to run in elections, campaign for votes, and, of course, get the place they want to turn to.
“But everything looks so funny. First, the party leadership was dissolved and Osiomholle was elected. Osiomholle was subsequently fired, and someone else was named. The dismissal and reapproval, they said, were made by the president through the NIK.
“But there is no place in the constitution where the president has the right to dissolve party bodies at any level. The party charter stipulates what should be done by who and under what circumstances.
“But somehow they have now elevated the president to the position of a demigod. Everything he says should proceed as if the party were his personal property. This shows that we are not dealing with a democratic system, a party or a democratic leader. “
Junaid, who also condemned the appointment of Yobe Governor Mai Mala Buni as chairman of the APC Guardians’ Committee, said the party’s actions demonstrate complete contempt for Yobe’s people who voted for the party.
Nigerians should not expect free and fair elections in 2023, he said, as AKN leaders are determined to perpetuate their rule.
“Then they appointed a person who has a full-time job, for which he is paid in full, as well as other benefits associated with it. A man elected by the so-called governor of Yobe State.
“Now no one told us why, of the millions of members of the Union of Right Forces with cards, only this person is entitled to two positions: the governor of the state and the chairman of the board of trustees of a political party. This demonstrates extreme hypocrisy, irresponsibility and complete contempt for the people of Yobe State. These people should be ashamed of themselves.
“After this lawlessness, they extended the term of the committee of trustees for six months, which is an illegal invention to continue working. I am completely ashamed of the presidency, the party, and the people who are leading the preliminary agreement. They should be ashamed of themselves. “
“No one can convince me that these characters can organize a party democratically and lead it to peaceful and credible elections. I have doubts. They are even trying to lure former President Goodluck Jonathan into the 2023 presidential election and have said that if he agrees to run, they will rig the election in his favor.
“It shows you that anyone who godly desires credible elections in 2023 must give up this thought. These people are determined to rig the elections and get their way, ”he said.
