Chasing bandits is not FG’s job – La Mohammed
Information and Culture Minister Lai Mohammed said on Tuesday that it is not the federal government’s responsibility to prosecute the mobsters as it is not a federal offense.
Muhammad said this at a press conference in Abuja.
He responded to statements by the opposition People’s Democratic Party about the security challenges facing the country.
The minister said: “The PDP has stated that the kidnappers and bandits are not being prosecuted. Obviously this is aimed at the federal government.
“It is shocking that the party that has ruled this country for 16 years does not know that kidnapping and banditry are not federal crimes.
“Therefore, the NDP should call on the states, including those that it controls, to ensure strict legal proceedings against the arrested kidnappers and bandits.
Meanwhile, the NDP conveniently forgot that with regard to terrorism, a federal crime, this federal government has successfully prosecuted thousands of Boko Haram members in Kainji as part of an ongoing exercise. We are now seeking cooperation with the judiciary to continue the trial of the arrested terrorists. ”
