Mustafa Idrit, a 29-year-old man, was sentenced to death by hanging.

The man was sentenced to death on Tuesday by the Jigawa State Supreme Court in Ringima for the murder of his girlfriend.

The president of the court, Judge Ahmed Muhammad Abubakar, sentenced the convict to death after being found guilty of a crime.

Abubakar stated that the crime was contrary to article 221 of the Criminal Code and sentenced him to death by hanging.

He said that the punishment would serve as a warning to others with the same thoughts.

DAILY POST reported that Jigawa State Police arrested 29-year-old Mustafa Idrit of Daneji Village in Ringim Local Government District of Jigawa State in connection with the murder of his girlfriend.

The suspect was detained on January 18, 2020 on charges of allegedly cutting the throat of Nafisa Hashim from the same village after inviting her to the outskirts of the village.

However, a suspect for selling oranges in Abuja told DAILY POST that he killed his victim to bury her the shame for carrying her in her third month of pregnancy out of wedlock.
