Court of Appeal ruled illegal 2020 Police Act abolishing recruitment

The ordinance canceled the recruitment of 10,000 police officers by the police authorities last year.

The 2020 Police Act was ruled by the Court of Appeal to be illegal, unconstitutional and invalid.

The 2020 Police Act, passed this September, affects the constitutional mandate of the Police Service Commission.

The Court of Appeal ruled that the provisions of the law were contrary to paragraph 30 of part 1 of the third list of the 1999 Constitution, “which empowers the commission to appoint persons to positions in the Nigerian police, with the exception of the Police Department. Inspector General of Police “.

The ordinance also overturned the recruitment of 10,000 police officers by the police authorities last year.

However, IG, Mohammed Adamu, has appealed the ruling overturning a previous ruling by the Abuja Federal High Court.
