David Andal, Died of COVID-19, Wins US Elections
The North Dakota legislative candidate who died of the coronavirus last month won the election on Tuesday.
Republican David Andal, who was 55 at the time of his death, and another Republican candidate, Dave Nering, were elected to represent the 8th district in the state House of Representatives.
The district has two representatives, and both Andal and Nering defeated their two Democratic rivals.
His mother, Pat Andal, told the Bismarck Times that Andal passed away after being hospitalized due to illness.
The mother said her son was “very attentive” to the pandemic and wanted to become an elected official.
“He had a lot of feelings for his neighborhood … and he wanted to improve the situation and his heart was in agriculture. He wanted the best for the farmers and the coal industry, ”he said.
