ENNIO MORRICONE DIED - CITIZEN OF ROME, CITIZEN OF THE WORLD

Born into a family of musicians and received an excellent musical education, Ennio Morricone began his career from the bottom. The future world celebrity played in bars, cafes and hotels. Then Ennio worked for a long time as an arranger on Italian television.

At the age of 33, fate presented Morricone with the greatest gift in his life: he went to the cinema. This gift, it seems, was always in his face – the director whose films glorified Morricone’s music was his former classmate. The name of this classmate is Sergio Leone. Italian westerns (or “spaghetti westerns”) with Clint Eastwood in the title role – “For a Fistful of Dollars”, “A Few Dollars More” and “The Good, the Bad, the Ugly” – became real hits, and later – and classics of world cinema …

The maestro often said that he was engaged in creating soundtracks, and not classical academic music, because the former was paid for and the latter was not. In his interview with TASS, Ennio Morricone also explained why he loves film music: “There are very good composers, very inspired, and they do interesting things that allow us to say that film music is still an important art form. And for me in the 21st century it also remains one of the most essential forms of art. ” In total, Morricone wrote music for almost five hundred paintings (just think about this figure), among which there were real masterpieces and films simply beloved by the public: “The Sicilian Clan”, “The Red Tent”, “Professional”, “Once Upon a Time in America”, ” Red Sonja “,” The Untouchables “and” Malena “. There was also a Russian film in his filmography – “72 meters” by Vladimir Khotinenko. Among the latest successes of the maestro are the music for the Westerns by Quentin Tarantino “Django Unchained” and “The Hateful Eight”. For the music to the “Eight” Morricone took his second and last “Oscar”.

Ennio Morricone was not only an outstanding composer, but also a conductor. Since the mid-1980s, he has regularly performed with orchestras that performed his music. Morricone visited Russia several times. The last time it happened was at the end of 2018: then the maestro gave big concerts in Moscow and St. Petersburg.

Ennio Morricone, citizen of Rome, left our world tonight. However, the soul of the great maestro will always live in his music, which millions of music lovers in all countries of the world will listen to again and again for many years!
