Don’t use us as bait – ASUU warns other personnel unions
The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has stated that the National Association of Academic Technologists, the NAAT or any other union should not use it as bait to get anything from the government.
ASUU then advised the NAAT or any other staff union to fight their battles in their own way.
The President of the University of Lagos, head of UNILAG ASUU, who is also a member of the National Executive Committee of the union, Dr. Dele Ashiru, said this on Sunday when he responded to NAAT statements by expressing dissatisfaction with the sharing agreement. “AD 40 billion issued by the federal government as academic grants for university staff.
“Who pays the earned academic scholarships, is it ASUU or the state? First, ASUU presented its demands to the government, and we presented our case, and based on this, the government allocated money. There was not enough money even for what we asked for, but we made the necessary concession in the interests of everyone.
“However, the National University Commission, NUC, also saw the need to involve other unions and asked for them on their behalf. Nobody should use ASUU as bait to get anything from the government. We are fighting our own battles and we want other unions to fight alone too, ”he said.
Ashiru said that no union should involve ASUU in its fight or struggle.
