Driver Keke stabbed to death by Passenger’s relative in Nsukka |
The violence was averted Saturday, October 31, after commercial tricycle drivers went mad after a Hausa man stabbed a colleague in Nsukka, Enugu state.
IgbereTV realized the trouble began when a dispute over payment broke out between the driver Keke and the Hausa woman.
According to Facebook user Aluma Jona Enyi, a Hausa woman reported this to her relatives, who broke into the area, and in the meantime one of them stabbed the driver of Keke. The victim was taken to hospital, where he is now undergoing treatment.
However, a protest erupted when news of the stabbing leaked. The enraged Keke Knights went mad, destroying the perishable goods belonging to the Hausa merchants.
Aluma John Eni wrote on Facebook:
“There was a commotion a few hours ago at the barracks junction, Nsukka. The Hausa woman who was selling perishable goods at the barracks intersection had a slight misunderstanding with the keke rider who brought her and her goods to the barracks intersection. The keke rider insisted that she pay him a certain amount of money so that he would transport her from the market to the shack intersection. But the Hausa woman refused. After dragging and dropping, the woman went to report the incident to her Hausa brothers. The brothers came to defend their sister, and one of them stabbed the knight’s keke. The keke rider was urgently taken to the hospital of Bishop Shanahan Nsukk, where he is now undergoing treatment. The Keke Biker Associations went mad in search of revenge. Not a single life was lost. They only destroyed some perishable goods and blocked the road for several minutes. He was forbidden to destroy property belonging to the Hausa people, or even attack the Hausa people. Normalcy returns to the scene.
Do not panic. There are no tribal conflicts in Nsukka. The Nsukka people are peaceful people.
