Drug dealer sends 97 cocaine wrappers after arrest at Lagos airport


Chigbogu drug dealer Ernest Obiora, 47, was arrested by agents of the National Drug Enforcement Agency at Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Ikeja, Lagos.

NDLEA spokesman Femi Babafemi said on Friday that Obiora was subsequently placed under surveillance, during which he sent 97 cocaine wrappers totaling 1.55 kg, totaling N360 million.

“He was arrested at about 1:16 pm on Sunday, April 25, 2021, during customs clearance by an Ethiopian airline. He arrived in Lagos by airline from Entebbe, Uganda, via Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, ”Babafemi said.

The NDLEA commander at the airport, Ahmadu Garba, said Obiora was intercepted in the airport’s electronic arrivals hall by agency agents on suspicion of taking drugs.

He said: “The suspect was taken for a body scan and the result was positive when swallowed a substance believed to be an illegal drug. The suspect was immediately transferred to the NDLEA Allocation / Surveillance Center. ”

Just an hour after his arrest, Obior reportedly released 31 500-gram wrappers of cocaine and another 47 wrappers (750 grams) on the evening of the same day, while 19 wrappers (300 grams) were released the following Monday. April 26, bringing the total number of packages to 97, or 1.55 kg.

Babafemi said during interrogation that Obiora claimed he was promised $ 1,500 if he successfully sold the drug, adding that he chose the “deal” because he needed money.

“I did it to feed my family. I used to live in Madagascar, but due to COVID-19 and the blockade in the country, I could not return to work.

“There was a time when I had no money to feed my family and pay for the education of my children at school, and the worst thing was to pay the rent. So I decided to choose an option to do it, ”he said.

Obiora reportedly said he never knew he could be arrested as he never met the real owner of the drug.

“I don’t know him, they contacted me on the phone and asked if I could do business,” he said.

In the meantime, continuing efforts to eliminate all outlets, Ondo State NDLEA command raided two locations, arrested two drug dealers and seized 80.2kg of bush, and four hectares of cannabis cultivated in the Elejevo area in southern Akure. local government.

The agency commander in Kallis Alumona state said that 31-year-old Ibukunoluwa Kemi and 25-year-old Oluwaseun Sunday were arrested with 78 kg and 2.2 kg of boredom, respectively.
