#EndSARS: celebrities should represent young people in dialogue with FG, suggests Senator Ndoume

Ali Ndoume, chairman of the Senate Army Committee, offered #EndSARS activists the way forward.

He called on young Nigerian celebrities who identified with the recent peaceful #EndSARS protesters to discover talks with the federal government to meet their five-point demands, The PUNCH reported.

The young people made a five-point request that was presented to President Major General Muhammad Bukhari (ret.) Last week through Largo State Governor Babajide Sanvo-Olu.

#EndSARS protesters have consistently stated that they do not have a leader to negotiate with the government to fulfill their demands.

But speaking to reporters in Abuja on Friday, Ndume said Nigeria’s popular youth in the entertainment industry and civil society groups seen during peaceful protests should engage with the government.

He said: “Prominent celebrities who took part in the last peaceful #EndSARS protests before it was overrun by thugs must represent young people and negotiate with the federal government to resolve the ongoing scam.

“The government needs a team with which to negotiate how to meet the five-point requirements, as well as other programs announced for youth by the president.

“The government will not be able to meet the high demands of young people without representatives of the beneficiaries.”

Ndoume praised the president for heeding the advice to appeal to the people.

He said that the speech raised all the important issues of concern to the minds of Nigerians, especially young people.

He called on #EndSARS protesters to suspend their activities in the streets to prevent further looting.

He called on the National Assembly to accelerate action to ensure that adequate compensation for victims of police brutality is included in the national budget for 2021.
