EndSARS: Osinbajo apologizes for the delayed requests.

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, in a statement Friday night, apologized for the delay in meeting the demands of the #EndSARS protesters.

The protest against police brutality and the infamous Anti-Robbery Special Squad (SARS) of the Nigerian Police Force has taken a global turn following a violent social media campaign.

Peaceful demonstrations are also taking place in the country’s main cities.

Although the dissolution of the police unit was achieved, some other demands of the protesters were not fully met.

These include the prosecution of killer police officers, the release of all protesters in custody, and full police surveillance.

In a statement, the vice president acknowledged that the implementation process could have moved faster than it is.

“I perfectly understand how many young people they feel. Many people think that we have been too quiet and just have not done enough, and this feeling of disappointment is justified. Too many people have been mistreated by the police and this is unacceptable. We must take responsibility for protecting young people, even sometimes those who are paid to protect them. ”

He said that several meetings were held between President Muhammadu Bukhari, senior officials of the National Assembly, the police authorities and the Human Rights Commission to save the situation.

“Over the past week, we have followed the protests and had a number of discussions with key people in the administration that you deserve to hear about. After all, transparency is a fundamental principle of government. “
