#EndSARS promoters face the law – Garba Shehu, Assistant to President Bukhari
CBN Action: #EndSARS Promoters Face Law, Presidency Says
The President said those who allowed the recent #EndSARS protests to escalate into the destruction of lives and property in the country must be held accountable.
Major General Muhammadu Bukhari (ret.), Senior Special Assistant to the President for Media and Advertising Garba Shehu, Major General Muhammadu Bukhari (ret.), Announced this on Sunday while presenting the Sunday Politics TV program.
PUNCH reported that the Central Bank of Nigeria froze the accounts of 20 #EndSARS champions, while another activist, Modupe Odele, was banned from traveling last week and her passport was seized by the Nigerian Immigration Service. …
Asked if his director knew about the development of events, Shehu said that the dollar settled on the president’s table, indicating that the protesters should be brought before the law.
He said: “This country has only one president and one constitution. President Muhammadu Bukhari is responsible for his government. The dollar stops at his desk.
“We are a country governed by law. Section 33 has a constitution that clearly defines the rights of citizens to free peaceful protest, but where peaceful protest turns into riot, violence and robbery, there is a duty of law and order.
“Everyone witnessed the massive looting of public and private property, especially in Lagos, Calabar, Plateau, Taraba and some other states, including PKT.
“Now the laws of the country should have the right to make decisions and make decisions on violations committed by anyone.
“I’m not very picky about celebrities or promoters, but this country has been hit hard and people need to be willing to take responsibility for what they’ve done.”
He added that some politicians who promoted the #EndSARS demonstrations, including members of the People’s Democratic Party, should “publicly condemn” the subsequent destruction caused by the protest.
