Farmer Dele Olovoni was killed while sleeping in a farming community in the village of Okha, Imeko, in the Imeko-Athos municipal district of Ogun state.
Olovoni was reportedly found dead by his wife with machete cuts on his neck and other parts of his body on Sunday.
A source told our reporter that Fulani shepherds stormed the village at night with guns and a saber and killed Olovoni on the farm.
The source said: “One of our brothers here in Imeko was killed this early morning (Sunday) at about 1 am by Fulani shepherds.
“They stormed the village at midnight with machine guns and sabers, they were killed indiscriminately, destroying property.
“Dele Olovoni was killed by Fulani shepherds in the village of Okha. After killing him, they left for Ivoe Ketu. “
The Abimbola Oyemi State Police Officer confirmed the incident, adding that there is no evidence that the man was killed by the Fulani shepherds.
“This is an agricultural village, there is only one house where a man lived with his wife.
“We were told that he complained about the heat and went to bed, but in the morning he was found dead.
“No one can identify his killers, we cannot yet confirm whether the killers are Fulani shepherds or not. We are still investigating. “
However, the PPRO said the family did not allow the police to keep the body for an autopsy.
He said, “They said they didn’t want to be sent to the morgue, and because they want to, we can do nothing but hand over the body to them.”
