Fear spreads as gunmen kill merchants in Imo’s new attack
This may seem like a truly unexpected development: several northern traders were killed in another attack on the state of Imo.
The murders were reported last week, according to Aminiya, the House Daily Trust.
Four people were reportedly killed in Orel and three in the city of Amaka.
Dr. Lavan Yusuf, a resident of Owerri, the capital of Imo state, blamed the attacks on the indigenous people of Biafra (IPOB).
“Yesterday IPOB attacked some Scandinavian meat traders and killed three people. We have already buried them. “
“Whenever they meet people from the north at their places of work, they ask if they have a residence permit in Biafra, and if they say no (IPOB), they hit you with firearms; many of our people were killed this way, ”he said.
Yusuf said the officers were stationed in only one Nordic-dominated residential area, Oma House, “But there are no security personnel in other areas, and to be honest, we live in fear.”
At least 11 Nords have been killed in the past two weeks in Imo.
Meanwhile, hundreds of Nordics are reported to have fled the state.
Last week, Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo reassured the northern community of the state of her government’s determination to protect them and their property.
