FG approved 87.5 billion contracts for the construction of roads, bridges

On Wednesday, November 4, the Federal Executive Council approved an amount of NN 87.538 billion for the construction of certain roads in some parts of the country.

The amount approved includes changes in the value of two existing road contracts.

Federal Capital Territory Minister Mohammad Bello and Labor and Housing Minister Babatunde Fashola reported them to the State Chamber at the end of a council meeting chaired by President Muhammad Bukhari.

Bello told reporters that Gilmor Engineering Nigeria Limited was awarded a contract for the construction of the road at FCT in the amount of NO $ 30,686,609,298.68 with a 32-month completion date.

He said the contract is for the full development of the Umaru Musa Yar’Adua Road to the Murtala Mohammed Way, commonly known as the Kubwa Expressway.

He said the project area is within Phase II of the federal capital, which serves as a border road between the neighboring districts of Mabushi, Kado, Katampe and Jabi.

Fashola, for his part, said the council approved the AE 47.504 billion change to complete the 52-kilometer Oyo-Ogbomosho highway, which is part of the 145-kilometer Ilorin-Ibadan highway.

According to him, as a result of this change, the value of the contract amounted to 105.041 billion N.E.

He said the change was necessary due to the need to adjust the coating thickness from 500 mm to 560 mm; to replace bitumen-modified bitumen-bitumen bitumen; and also to change the shoulders from surface to fully asphalted inner and outer benches.

“Thus, all these changes required RUB 47.504 billion. This was a revision that we presented and approved by the Council. This route was awarded in 2010. As I said, sections 1 and 3 have been completed. We are trying to complete Section 2, which we also got, ”the minister explained.

Fachola added that the council had approved the option for the construction of the Lokko-Oveto Bridge connecting Nasaraw to Benue State at AU 9.348 billion, adding that as a result of the construction, the contract price had been changed from NE 51.621

He said: “This project was awarded in 2011 and it was awarded on three different sections: one section, the road from Benue to Oueto, was handed over to a contractor, we completed this road.

“The bridge was transferred to another contractor. The bridge is mostly finished. It is open to movement. Then 74 kilometers from Lokko to Nasarawa were transferred to another contractor. We are trying to resolve the issue and will return.

“So the approval given today was an N9.348 billion change to complete the bridge component or the remaining works on the bridge. If you go there now, it is already open to traffic, finishing work and work to connect the existing road on the Benue side to the bridge – that’s what we have this option for.

“Hence the change in the price of the contract from 51.621 billion rubles. Up to 60.961 billion rubles. As I said, although we have not yet finished the curb on the Nasarawa side, passengers are already using this road because it provides a huge detour that goes through Lafia, Keffi to get to Nasarawa and Abuja. “
