Former Bankole spokesman marries Bagud’s daughter Aisha Shinkafi Said
Former House Speaker Dimeji Bankole will tie the marriage knot with Miss Aisha Shinkafi Saidu, daughter of Governor Kebbie Atiku Bagudu on Friday, 15 January.
Bankol, who divorced his first wife in 2017, was a highly sought after bachelor among eligible spinsters inside and outside Nigeria.
The wedding ceremony on Friday will open the veil over rumors of her intentions in marriage after the divorce.
The bride, a lawyer and graduate of Hull University in the UK, is the granddaughter of the late political heavyweight and former head of the Nigerian security service, Alhaji Umaru Shinkafi, Marafan Sokoto.
The bride’s mother is the daughter of Shinkafi and the sister of the former governor of Zamfara Aliya Shinkafi.
The Bankole family of Iporo, Abeokuta, said in a statement that a quiet presentation took place between the two families to begin a union in accordance with Islamic and traditional precepts.
During the presentation ceremony, Governor of Sokoto and successor to Bankole as Speaker of the House of Representatives Aminu Tambuval took the groom’s family to the bride’s house to ask her marriage.
Friday’s event will be the culmination of a courtship that both families were very careful about.
Political commentators, however, note that the marriage appears to be bridging Nigeria’s great political divide, with Bagudu as chair of the APC Governors ‘Forum and Tambuval as the national chair of the PDP Governors’ Forum.
The country has learned that the ceremony will be low-key due to the COVID-19 protocols.
