Former Jigawa speaker Iliyasu Dundubus is dead

Iliyasu Saidu Dundubus, a former representative of the House of Assembly of Jigawa State, died.

According to PREMIUM TIMES, State Assembly spokesman Babangida Hadejia said the deceased passed away on Wednesday while being treated in Zaria, Kaduna State.

Mr. Hadejia said the last speaker worked from 2000 to 2003 in the administration of the former governor Saminu Turaki.

The official said that the speaker on duty, Idris Garba, is mourning the late speaker, whom he described as a devoted legislator who at one time was committed to the independence of the legislative branch.

He said the congregation staff were shocked and saddened by the news of his death when he condemned his family and prayed to Allah for inner peace and Jannatul firda.

The speaker also announced a pause in honor of his late colleague.

The deceased was from the Dundubus community in the Dutse local government area in the state.

Even in his condolences, Dunlady Shankara called death a great loss for democracy and the people of the state.

Mr. Shankara said that the deceased was a pillar of the development of democracy and an independent legislature in the state. He congratulated the state legislators and residents of the Emirate of Dutse and his family on the loss.

The late speaker will be remembered for giving former governor Turaki a 24-hour ultimatum to return to the state or risk impeachment after a lengthy vacation.

The governor quickly returned to the state before the ultimatum was passed.

Mr. Dundubus’s death came just six months after the death of another former state official, Adamu Sarawa, who passed away in April after a short illness in Kano.
