FRSC Carries Arms – House of Representatives
Federal Highway Traffic Safety Corps (FRSC) agents will begin carrying firearms to reduce over-activity by road users in Nigeria.
A House Committee released the 2020 budget results and 2021 budget protections on Thursday in Abuja.
According to NAN, President Akinfolarin Mayova explained that a 1992 FRSC law allows the corps to carry weapons.
Mayowa said implementation has become necessary to ensure compliance with the law and ensure the effective functioning of the FRSC.
He announced that the committee will meet with Federation Government Secretary Boss Mustafa, and will also write to President Muhammad Bukhari to implement the law.
One member, Solomon Maren, added that the committee would discuss the matter with Police Inspector General Mohammed Adamu.
The MP said there are more risks on the roads, adding that the FSB must now carry weapons.
Marshal of the FRSC Corps, Boboye Oyemi, reported incidents in which motorists threatened duty officers.
Oeyemi stressed that using weapons for defense would reduce the number of aggressive road users and protect officers.
He confirmed that the corps consists of 280 formations and is present in almost all 774 local government districts in Nigeria.
