Gbade Ojo urges Tinuba to reconcile with Afenifere in connection with 2023
The head of political science at the University of Ilorin, Dr. Gbade Ojo, yesterday called on the national leader of the All-Progressive Congress (APC), Bol Ahmed Tinubu, to reconcile with Afghan leaders in order to secure their support in the elections. presidential election 2023.
In an interview with The Guardian in Ibadan, Oyo state, Ojo, an assistant professor in the department of comparative politics who was chief of staff for former governor Abiola Ajimobi, told The Guardian.
He argued that anyone who underestimated Afenifere did so at his own political risk, saying the group members were powerful opinion leaders.
His words: “On a serious note, Tinubu is a popular personality and politically connected person in the Southwest. Given the number of people he has made in politics, Tinubu is a force to be reckoned with politically in the Southwest.
“But this is inside the southwestern armored personnel carrier. Do not forget that there are people in the People’s Democratic Party (NDP) who may not be ready for him and will not support his candidacy.
“There are also other bands like Afenifere. From the way they spoke, it seems that they don’t support Tinuba. Looking at the voting pattern for the 2019 general election, which is more empirical than sentimental, if more people could vote for the NDP in the presidential elections in Oyo and Ondo states, Tinubu is not the most popular candidate in the southwest. ”
He said that Tinub needs to work hard and make love with some groups that do not support his political aspirations. Afenifere members are still influential, and many of them shape public opinion. The press and broadcasting give them great prominence. They can do a lot to influence the decisions of some people in the elections.
“Rather, anticipating the situation when Tinubu goes underground to meet with the leaders of the Afeninphenils, I would like him to ask them about the reason for their black grouse so that he can mend their defenses with them. Don’t underestimate anyone when it comes to politics and elections. Underestimating Afenifere could be tantamount to political collapse. They are politically significant “, he declared.
Ojo said the dissolution of the All Progressive Congress (APC) executive last year was political hypocrisy, adding, “APC has a transition committee. It’s funny that the party is disbanding. That is why the opposition believes that they should not have been in the government. “
