Ghanaian President Akufo-Addo condemns killing of demonstrators

The killing of unarmed Nigerian youths protesting against police brutality was condemned by Ghanaian President Nana Akufo-Addo.

Akufo-Ado, who is also president of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), made a statement on Wednesday. He said that violence, “whether by police or demonstrators, cannot be the solution” to ongoing events in Nigeria.

Taking Twitter, he wrote, “I join all well-meaning people in calling for calm and using dialogue to break the #ENDSARS impasse in Nigeria.” I spoke with President Muhammadu Bukhari, who made a commitment and initiated the processes that will lead to reform.

“To the families that have lost loved ones, I express my sincere condolences and wish the injured a speedy recovery,” Akufo-Addo said.

The Nigeria News Agency (NAN) reports that protests against police brutality continued for days until Tuesday, when thugs infiltrated, turning peaceful protests into violent crises in parts of the country.
