Goodluck – Jonathan is free to look for a PDP ticket – Secondus
National President of the People’s Democratic Party (NDP), Prince Uche Secundus, said yesterday that the former president, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, could challenge the party’s presidential ticket pending the outcome of the zoning agreement. ahead of the 2023 presidential election.
However, he clarified that the zoning of the party’s presidential ticket for the 2023 election depends on the report of a committee chaired by Governor Bala Mohammed, set up to examine the reasons for the party’s defeat in the 2019 elections and make recommendations along the way. to follow.
Secundus, who said this yesterday in engaging with the media on the occasion of the three-year National Working Committee (NRC), nevertheless stressed the need to wind down the zoning and 2023 policy negotiations in light of the country’s dire state. …
Complaining that Nigeria is in a coma, he stressed that it is a pity that the ruling party has abandoned the government in favor of politics.
He criticized President Muhammad Bukhari for abandoning his decision to inform the National Assembly about the security situation in the country.
Speaking about 2023 and the state of the country, he said: “I know that you, the media, are interested in zoning, but our party has a clear method of action. After the general election, we formed a committee to study and evaluate our work and make the necessary recommendations.
He said: “Bauchi State Governor Alhaji Bala Mohammed is the head of the committee and they are still working. We did the same when we lost the elections in 2015, when we created a committee headed by Senator Ike Ekveremado to investigate the reasons for our defeat. It was on the basis of this report that the party took action until 2019.
“Likewise, this time we have to study our latest version before looking ahead. We can’t talk about zoning if we didn’t appreciate how we lost in the last election. In addition, the state of the nation today is such that politics or anything related to 2023 will have to be reversed three years later. Nigeria is now in a coma, where it was taken by an APC; that should be our concern now. “
But when asked if Jonathan will be selected to participate in the party platform, Secundus said: “I support my position that the committee headed by the Governor of Bal is still working. They come out with a report on why we lost, and when they are over, we will make a decision, and the decision will be made not by the National Workers’ Committee, but by our entire party.
“And I think anyone who is interested in the 2023 elections, including the former president, can stand a chance because the NDP is the party of everyone. Everyone will have such an opportunity, but, frankly speaking, we haven’t decided to give the ticket to anyone ”.
The party president, who condemned the country’s comatose state, said that the president’s contempt for the national parliament over the country’s insecure situation is tantamount to ignoring the Nigerian people, since the legislators are the representatives of the people.
He continued: “The troubling truth is that the president either doesn’t know what’s going on or knows what to do, otherwise he shouldn’t be afraid to confront the people. The hard fact that we all face now is that this regime has sadly disappointed Nigerians in every way.
“It’s a shame that (the president), who came to power waving the military credentials of a general with propaganda to destroy Boko Haram in 100 days, has ruled the worst security situation in our history for another five years without clear leadership. what to do, and is even afraid to confront the country’s parliament in order to explain what it is doing. “
He added that the NDP will change the structure of the country’s security and economy when it returns to power.
Secondus said, “We think our agenda speaks for itself, and if you look at our records over the past 16 years, you will also confirm the difference between what has happened in 16 years and what is happening now.
“The people who will come first on our agenda for moving forward are young people who are so digital and we are talking about the whole world working in a digital economy and young people are at the forefront, not the elderly. people.
“When you talk about a security issue, for example, Nigeria cannot continue to use this old centralized command structure of the old security architecture. We will come up with a new digital security architecture for the country, because the security of life and property is very important, before we even talk about the economy. If the location is unsafe, foreign investors will not invest. So we will make life here in Nigeria safe so that foreigners can come and invest. ”
