Governor of the North tells Bukhari to withdraw Onochi’s appointment as INEC Commissioner

President Muhammadu Bukhari’s decision to appoint Lauretta Onochi was condemned by Sokoto State Governor Aminu Tambuval.

He called on President Muhammad Bukhari to withdraw Lauretta Onochi’s candidacy as Commissioner of the INEC Independent National Electoral Commission.

Recall that President Bukhari sent the name of his aide and three other people to the Senate on Monday for confirmation within a week. The president’s decision was condemned by many, who characterized Onochi as a full member of the Congress of All Progressives map.

Tambuval, in a statement, accused the president of having recalled his special social media assistant Onochi.

This was stated by the governor of the People’s Democratic Party, speaking on Wednesday with the swearing-in of members of the Independent State Election Commission in the Government Chamber.

Tambuval said: “The withdrawal of troops is in the interests of the country’s electoral system.”

He noted that Bukhari’s choice “Onochi is not suitable for democracy in the country, as the candidate is a well-known biased person.”

The Sokoto governor also asked the upper legislative chamber to “reject his appointment unless President Bukhari resigns his appointment.”
