Governor of Ugwuani opens new school projects

Enugu State Governor Ifeani Ugwuani on Tuesday inaugurated several development projects that his administration has carried out in selected schools in the state.

Projects launched include solar-powered water wells recently built by his administration through the Post-Primary Management Board (PPSMB) at the Model High School and Urban Girls High School in the University City of Nsukka, as well as at Overre Girls High School -Ezeorba in Udena LGA.

Two blocks of ultra-modern dormitories, consisting of 8 rooms, a dining room with a kitchen, have also been opened at the Owerre-Ezeorba Girls’ High School; 60kVA soundproofed power generator; renovated 28 classrooms and the main school hall for 800 seats.

Governor Ugwuani, while in Nsukka, inspected numerous construction projects underway at Command High School, Orba, Udenu, LGA, in preparation for the official start of academic activities following military takeover.

Speaking, the governor expressed his satisfaction that the newly built solar wells have been implemented by his administration to address water supply problems in schools in order to advance the achievement of the Enugu state school water, sanitation and hygiene system (WASH).

Governor Ugwuani added that the strategic goal of school water projects is also to stem the tide of hygiene-related infectious diseases, including COVID-19, and create an enabling environment for teaching and learning.

The governor said his administration has significantly improved the school infrastructure.

He said that in the recent past, the administration refurbished two dormitory blocks, a cafeteria and 9 buildings of four classrooms at modern Nsukka High School, which contributed to the school’s ranking in 5th place. in the Nigeria Public Schools category in the 2019 President’s Award for Excellence in Teachers and Schools.

The feat, according to the governor, was based on the Federal Ministry of Education’s assessment of infrastructure, teaching and learning, the quality of teachers and school administrators, and performance in the WAEC exams for high and low school.

“In this benchmarking, Model High School, Nsukka brought pride to the state, and the headmaster, Mr. Obiora Ezugvuori, has long been praised through the Enugu State Executive Council (EXCO) approved salary raise to GL-17.” he said.

Congratulating the school principal, staff and students for their diligence, Governor of Ugwuani, at the students ‘request, approved the immediate construction of a boys’ dormitory and a state-of-the-art classroom for the school.

At the City Girls’ High School, Nsukka, the Ugwuani government administration has also rotated the three-room, 8-grade buildings that were still damaged by a thunderstorm in 2018. 1000 students.

State Commissioner for Education, Professor Uche Eze, President of PPSMB, Barr. Nestor Ezeme and school principals expressed their gratitude to Governor Ugwuani for the support of his administration and special attention to education, assuring the governor that history will forever remember his traces in the industry and beyond.
