Huge crowd at NIMC Storm Lagos office as deadline approaches
Hundreds of Nigerians have laid siege to the National Identity Management Commission in Lagos to obtain a national identification number.
The crowd is avoiding social distancing by exposing even more people to the dangerous coronavirus.
This happens as the registration deadline approaches.
Many are afraid of losing the queue if they don’t register.
According to the NIMC, the year will end around February.
The statement reads: “The National Working Group on NIN and SIM Registration has met today (yesterday). The meeting made the following decisions: FG approved a three-week extension for NIN subscribers from December 30, 2020 to January 19; extended by six weeks for non-NIN subscribers from December 30, 2020 to February 9, 2021. “The NIMC has provided strategies to enable citizens to participate in registration in full compliance with the COVID-19 protocols, in particular the use of masks, which remains mandatory, and the maintenance of social distancing.
