Omokri said Buhari was trying to pressure the government of the Republic of Benin to hand over the Yoruba nation’s agitator Sunday Igboho to his administration.
Reno Omokri revealed the real reason why the government led by Muhammadu Buhari refused to reopen the border between Nigeria and the Republic of Benin.
Former aide to former President Goodluck Jonathan said Buhari was trying to pressure the government of the Republic of Benin to hand over the Yoruba nation’s agitator Sunday Igboho to his administration.
He said the Nigerian government’s claim that the border has been closed to tackle the smuggling of goods and weapons and to address the threat of banditry is a lie.
On Thursday, in a tweet, Omokri wrote: “Buhari claims to have closed the border between the Republic of Benin and Nigeria due to banditry.
“This is a lie from Lai Mohammed’s mouth. The real reason for the closure is to put pressure on the Beninese government to hand over the Igboho ”.
Benin security officers currently detain Igboho after he was arrested in Cotonou.
The Yoruba Nation agitator was arrested at a Cotonou airport while trying to travel to Germany.
The separatist fled Nigeria to Cotonou after being declared wanted by the Department of State Services, DSS.
The DSS had declared him wanted after the discovery of weapons in his home in the Soka area of Ibadan, in the state of Oyo.
He had denied ownership of the weapons found in his home.
