A senior police source said the SWAT patrol was part of security measures aimed at thwarting the growing wave of insecurity across the country.
Statement number CH: 5350 / IGP.SEC / ABJ / VOL.20 / 340 stated “the deployment of newly formed Special Forces agents and task forces”.
Adamu was told that the SWAT agents would be deployed as soon as they begin their main operations.
The statement read: “The Inspector General of Police is ordering that all newly selected and trained Special Weapons and Tactical Squad (SWAT) agents are immediately deployed to carry out day-to-day duties in areas of responsibility.
