INEC Announces E-Voting Date for Elections in Nigeria
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has set a date for the introduction of electronic voting.
This was announced by INEC President Yakubu Mahmoud, stating that e-voting could be introduced in the 2021 Anambra governor’s elections.
This was announced by the chairman of the election commission during a meeting on budget protection with the commission of the House of Representatives on INEC.
Yakubu also said that they are looking for better ways to hold free and fair elections in the country.
“However, I urge the Senate to approve the spending of $ 5.2 billion from INEC’s special fund to offset the 2020 budget deficit that has been cut by the coronavirus pandemic,” he said.
As a reminder, the Commission announced that registration of eligible voters will begin in 2021 prior to the 2023 general election.
