ISWAP terrorists kill Nigerian army commander, brigadier general, four soldiers in ongoing Borno battle

It was revealed that a brigadier general, commander of the Nigerian army, was killed in an ambush by fighters from the province of the Islamic State of West Africa (ISWAP) in Borno state.

According to the Daily Trust, four other soldiers were reportedly killed in the accident in Bulguma, a few kilometers from the city of Askira, in the local government area of Askira Uba.

SaharaReporters previously reported that suspected ISWAP fighters engaged troops at a military base in Askira / Uba LGA in a firefight.

Some civilians said they spotted ISWAP fighters in a long convoy of armed trucks along the Ngude axis towards Askira early this morning.

Civilians claimed to have reported the terrorist movement to security forces, but no action was taken before the deadly group stormed the town of Askira hours later.

While confirming the attacks, Eng. Abdullahi Musa Askira, vice president of the Borno House Assembly, said the insurgents and troops were currently exchanging gunshots.

“Yes, ISWAP is currently attacking the town of Askira. I have been reliably informed that our troops are fighting them, but the residents are in the bush.

“My people told me that the insurgents arrived with about 16 armed trucks and now there is confusion all over the city,” Askira said.

It was gathered that troops from the 28 Task Force Brigade, Chibok, had mobilized to provide reinforcements to Askira, who was under attack.

The troops were ambushed while on their way to provide support for soldiers fighting the insurgents.

“It is a sad day for us on the theater of war; we lost the brigade commander (names omitted). The Brigadier and the soldiers who were going to support our troops in Askira were ambushed and killed by ISWAP fighters. We are sad, ”a security source said.

A member of the civilian Joint Task Force, Yakubu Luka, said the attackers immediately stormed the city, went to the military base.

“We are expecting a reinforcement from the neighboring community, while I am talking to you there are heavy gunshots going on.”

“We call on the authorities to send fighter planes to support the ground soldiers. We are outnumbered; we only have five vans with us ”. Yakubu said.
