It’s okay in dialogue with bandits – FG
The government of President Muhammadu Bukhari has declared that it is normal to negotiate with the bandits.
Recall that last Wednesday militants suspected of having a ban stormed Kagar State College of Science (GSC), Rafi LGA, Niger, and abducted several students, staff and some of their families.
Niger Governor Abubakar Bello noted that his government is doing everything to save the victims, including facilitating negotiations with the bandits.
Speaking Sunday on a radio program controlled by NAN, Minister of Information and Culture Lai Mohammed responded to Nigerians who opposed the strategy of dialogue with criminals.
Lai said that there is nothing wrong with talking to bandits if the ultimate goal is to make peace.
“After the war, people keep talking. So if some people have made a commitment to visit these people so that they can find peace, I do not think that there is anything bad in this, ”the minister explained.
Speaking further, he noted that the federal government would not pay a ransom for the release of the kidnapped GSC Kagara.
He also denied that a ransom had been paid to free more than 300 kidnapped children in Kankar, Katsina state.
Regarding the crisis of shepherds and farmers in some parts of the country, Lai said the government is taking steps to address it.
He said the steps include plans for intensive livestock production so that livestock and agriculture do not clash.
