January will be difficult, COVID-19 infection spike expected, NCDC reports
January is going to be tough due to rising coronavirus cases in the country, according to the Nigerian Center for Disease Control.
The center warned that the country will pay in January for non-compliance with health protocols.
Speaking Tuesday at a presidential task force briefing on COVID-19, NCDC CEO Dr Chikwe Iheakwazu said: “We just had our worst week since we started responding to this outbreak.
We had more cases in Nigeria in the past week than in any other week before the outbreak.
“Photos and videos from all over the country paint a very depressing situation, because it seems that our messages, our appeals to Nigerians in recent months have not been heard, and we, as usual, moved on.
“Event centers are full, community activities are full, so it’s no surprise that the number of cases is increasing.
“January will undoubtedly be a difficult month. Therefore, we must prepare for the consequences of the actions that we decided to take in December. ”
