Jehovah is the name of revelation – part one

Sir, dear listeners, let us discuss with you one important topic, which I called ” Jehovah – the name of the revelation of Jesus in the Old Testament .”

I am sure that most believers who read or hear this headline will immediately be alert. After hearing my sermon on this topic in Kiev, some believers asked me: are you not Jehovah’s witnesses?Therefore, our Lord Jesus, knowing the fact that most of the children of God are in the dark about this issue, prompted my heart to write the following article and explain in detail who we are dealing with in the person of Jehovah in the Old Testament. Yes Yes! But you will say: what does Jehovah have to do with it if we read in our Bible “Lord”, “Lord God” or simply “God”.

Of course, in the New Testament, every child of God knows well that in the Trinity we see the heavenly Father, Jesus Christ – His Son and the Holy Spirit.

It is appropriate and very necessary to mention in this place that Martin Luther in his translation and in the Russian Bible, the name “Jehovah” is translated by the word “Lord”, which is not true! Therefore, with these two Bibles it is very difficult to engage in real research of God’s Word.

In order to defuse your wariness and doubt a little, at the very beginning of this article I draw your attention to Exodus 6: 3: “ I appeared to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob with [the name]“ God Almighty ”, but with the name [My],“ the Lord ”did not open them”.

To Abraham, Isaac and Jacob Jesus revealed himself, as the Holy Spirit informs us here, under the name “Almighty”, because it was important for Him to cultivate faith in them ! With Moses, a completely different phase of Jesus’ communication with people begins. Therefore, He reveals Himself to Moses under the name “Jehovah”.

As we read in this verse, so in the entire Old Testament in the Hebrew Bible it is written: this is the will of the Lord Jesus! And the fact that M. Luther and the translators of the Russian Bible arbitrarily write “Lord” instead of “Jehovah”, they will have to answer for this before the Judgment Seat of Christ!

But before we start exploring Jehovah’s name, let’s take a quick look at the relationship between the Father and His Son.

Even before the foundation of the world, the Lord Jesus showed a willingness to die for the sins of people in order to enable them to be saved for eternal life, 2 Tim 1,9: “He who saved us and called us by the holy title, not according to our deeds, but according to His will and the grace given to us in Christ Jesus before the ages ”.

Since Jesus showed a willingness to die for the sins of lost people, the Father gave Him the power to govern people for the entire duration of the existence of people on earth in the flesh. We realize this fact if we take into account that the heavenly Father together with His Son created everything for the Son:

Col 1,16: “ For by Him was created everything that is in heaven and that on earth, visible and invisible: whether thrones, dominions, rulers, or powers – all were created by Him and for Him”;

Heb. 1, 2: ” In these last days he spoke to us in the Son, whom he made heir to all, through whom he also created forever.”

Now let us examine this question in the Word of God. We find a very interesting and important message in John 3:35: “The Father loves the Son and has put everything into His hand.”

But we want to know specifically what is contained in this “everything”. And if it is written here “He gave everything into His hand, ” then we must believe that there is nothing in this world in relation to which the Father would say: in this matter I myself will make a decision! Or: I will leave it under My control!

The Holy Spirit brings us a little closer to the answer to our question through Hebrews 2: 7-8: “ You did not humiliate him much before the Angels; you crowned him with glory and honor, and set him over the works of your hands; 8 you put all things in subjection under his feet. And when he subdued everything to him, he left nothing unconquered to him . Now we do not yet see that everything was subdued by him . ”

In these two verses we have the greatest and most important message of the Bible! But still, what should we see in detail in this “everything”? And when will the Father subdue everything under the Son’s feet? It is these two questions that we will now consider in detail. To do this, we extract from the Bible one paragraph after another. Look what the Word of God says about this, and not ignorant people who judge it superficially and put a lot of imagination into it.

First . So that Jesus could perfectly do the will of the Father, He gave the Son authority over the angels in heaven and over people on earth. Jesus Himself informs us of this in Mt 28: 18: ” And Jesus came close and said to them: All power in heaven and on earth has been given to Me.”

Secondly . We see the ultimate goal of God in the fact that He wants to save people who have fallen into sin for eternal life, so that His Son, Jesus Christ, would have fellowship in eternity. Scripture unambiguously informs us about this in John 3:16: ” For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, so that everyone who believes in Him should not perish, but have eternal life.”

Therefore, the Father gave the Son authority over all flesh, John 17:.2: ” since You gave Him authority over all flesh, so that He will give eternal life to everything that You have given Him .”

Third . Now let’s ask ourselves the question: how could the Lord Jesus fulfill the will of the Father and give people eternal life? And this authority was given by the Father to His Son Jesus. We read about this in Jn 5.26: ” For as the Father has life in himself, so he gave the Son to have life in himself.”

Fourth . For a lost sinner to be saved for eternal life, he must receive the remission of sins. Therefore, the Father gave the Son the authority to forgive the sins of people. We read about this in Luke 5.24: ” But so that you know that the Son of Man has the power on earth to forgive sins,” He said to the paralytic: I say to you: get up, take your bed and go to your house. “

Fifth . But since, according to the spiritual law, without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness (Hebrews 9.22), Jesus had to die on the cross of Calvary for the sins of the whole world with the shedding of blood. Therefore, the Father gave Him the authority to lay down His life and take it back. The Scripture informs about this in John 10: 17-18: “ Therefore the Father loves Me, because I give my life in order to receive it again. Nobody takes it from Me, but I myself give it. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it up again. This commandment I received from My Father. “

Of course, there is no contradiction in the fact that the Father raised Jesus from the dead, as we read in many places in the Bible: D.Ap.3.15; 4.10; 13,30.34; 17.31; Rom. 4.24; 6.4; 8.11; 10.9, etc. But on the cross of Calvary, the Lord Jesus himself really left His life when the atonement was completed (not to be confused with “deliverance”!) And again accepted it, since He received this authority from the Father before the foundation of the world.

Sixth . All the thoughts and aspirations of the heavenly Father and our Lord Jesus are directed towards giving His Creation, fallen into sin, the opportunity to be saved for eternal life. Therefore, before explaining this point, I will once again list all the main stages of the Lord Jesus’ action to save lost sinners.

For this, Jesus left power and glory with His Father in heaven, appeared in the flesh to people on earth , died for their sins on the Cross of Calvary , on the third day he rose from the dead and after 40 days was lifted up by the Father into heaven .

But we know that if the Holy Spirit had not been poured out on the earth, there would have been no salvation for eternal life. Therefore, the final stage in God’s plan for the salvation of people is the outpouring of the Holy Spirit. But since the Father gave all the authority into the hands of His Son, He gave Him the authority to pour out the Holy Spirit to complete the work of saving people.

To the simple eye, this act of the Lord Jesus is a little veiled. And I did not pay attention to this fact before. But since this circumstance is very important for the issue considered in this article, the Lord drew my attention to this fact.

So, let us turn to D.Ap.2,33: ” So, being lifted up by the right hand of God and receiving the promise of the Holy Spirit from the Father, he poured out what you now see and hear.”

In the Gospel of John, the Holy Spirit represents himself as the “Comforter.” Although it will be a little cumbersome, I will use these 4 verses to show what Jesus says about the Holy Spirit. John 14:16: ” And I will pray the Father, and he will give you another Comforter, that he may be with you forever.” (Here we have one more proof that the children of God cannot lose their salvation!).

John 14:26: ” But the Comforter, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you everything and remind you of everything that I have told you.”

John 15:26: ” When the Comforter comes, whom I will send you from the Father, the Spirit of truth, which proceeds from the Father, He will testify about Me”;

John 16: 7: “ But I tell you the truth: it is better for you that I go; for if I do not go, the Comforter will not come to you; but if I go, I will send Him to you. ” (This verse clearly shows that if Jesus had not returned to the Father and poured out the Holy Spirit, there would have been no salvation).

Now listen with the utmost attention: in John 14:16 and 26 Jesus says that the Father will send the Holy Spirit – the Comforter. And in Jn 15.26 and 16.7 Jesus says that He will send the Holy Spirit, but with the proviso that the Holy Spirit comes from the Father.

There is no contradiction and competition here! But the situation is exactly the same as with the resurrection of Jesus from the dead, which I explained above in paragraph 5.

The Holy Spirit comes from the Father in heaven, who gave His Son Jesus the authority at the necessary and decisive historical moment to pour out the Holy Spirit to complete His work on Calvary.

Seventh . In John 3:17 the Holy Spirit informs us: ” For God did not send His Son into the world to judge the world, but so that the world might be saved through Him.”

This message is the main goal of God, but the overwhelming majority of people passing through the earth during its existence do not come to Jesus and remain forever lost. Therefore, God is forced, on the basis of their unbelief (which is the greatest sin) and His righteousness, to condemn them to eternal destruction.

And, since on the basis of John. 17.2 The Father gave the Son authority over all flesh, then He also gave Him authority to judge people. As it is written in Jn 5: 27-30: “ And He gave Him authority to execute judgment also, because He is the Son of Man. Do not marvel at this; for the time is coming when all who are in the tombs will hear the voice of the Son of God;

 and those who have done good will go forth into the resurrection of life, but those who have done evil into the resurrection of condemnation. I cannot create anything from Myself. As I hear, so I judge, and My judgment is just; for I do not seek My will, but the will of the Father who sent Me. “

Moreover, the redeemed together with Christ will perform judgment on lost people and fallen angels, 1 Cor. 6,2-3: “ Don’t you know that the saints will judge the world? But if the world is judged by you, are you unworthy to judge unimportant [matters]? Do you not know that we will judge the angels, much less the [deeds] of life?

Eighth . Since in the matter of saving lost sinners, Jesus expressed his readiness to do the will of the Father, and when the time came to practically do it, the Father not only gave Him the authority listed above in 7 points, but also put Him over the works of His hands and made Him heir Total! Gave authority over the works of His hands!

Heb. 1, 2: ” In these last days he spoke to us in the Son, whom he made heir to all, through whom he also created forever.”

Ps 8: 6-7: “ Thou didst not diminish him much before the angels: you crowned him with glory and honor; 7 You have made him ruler over the works of your hands; I put everything under his feet. “

This means that the Father gave the Son practically the power to govern all the works of His hands and in eternity: … He made him the ruler over the works of Your hands (Heb. 2: 7). We will see this below.

This fact is also confirmed by the Holy Spirit in the Old Testament in Abraham’s actions towards his son Isaac, for Abraham is a type of the Heavenly Father, and Isaac is a type of the Lord Jesus, Gen. 25.5: “ And Abraham gave everything that he had to Isaac “.

Further confirmation of the fact that Jesus inherited everything from the Father is also seen in the parable in Mt 21: 38: “ But the husbandmen, seeing the son, said to one another: This is the heir; let us go, kill him and take possession of his inheritance . ”

The precious promise in this matter is that every person who comes to Jesus in faith and, in repentance, accepts Him in his heart, receives a gift – eternal life! According to the message of Jacob, such become heirs of the Kingdom, James 2.5: ” Listen, my beloved brothers: did not God choose the poor of the world to be rich in faith and heirs of the Kingdom, which He promised to those who love Him?”

And as heirs of the Kingdom, the heavenly Father made all the children of God and joint heirs of Jesus Christ, Rom. 8:17: ” And if children, then heirs, heirs of God, joint heirs with Christ, if only we suffer with Him, so that we may be glorified with Him .”

In the 8 points discussed above, we considered with you all the authority given by the heavenly Father to His Son Jesus, which was necessary for Him to accomplish the work on Calvary. Jesus victoriously completed the work entrusted to Him at Calvary and was taken again by the Father to heaven.

In Hebrews 2: 8 we read further: You “ subjugated all things under his feet ” .., but the end of the verse reads: “ Now we do not yet see that everything was subdued to him ;”. How do we determine the time when the Father will submit everything to the Son? Scripture informs us about this in 1 Corinthians 15:28: “ When all things have submitted to Him, then the Son Himself will submit to Him who submitted all to Him, that God be all in all”. (see also Heb.10.13).

In practice, this is the moment when the last soul, which the Lord foreknew according to Romans 8:29 before the foundation of the world, will be saved and thus the Church of Jesus will be completed. Then Jesus will no longer need the authority given to Him by the Father for the duration of the existence of people on earth.

After the burning of the Earth in the fire of judgment, according to 1 Pet 3.10 (after the 1000 year Kingdom), the Lord Jesus will forever enter with His redeemed ones into the inheritance of the Father in heavenly glory.

Once again, I draw your attention to the expression in the above verse and especially emphasize it: then the Son Himself will submit to Him who conquered everything , for it clearly follows from this message of Scripture that throughout the entire existence of people on earth, the Lord Jesus had absolute power over them.

Now let’s see when our Lord Jesus Christ will transfer all the authority given to Him on earth to the Father. It’s very interesting, isn’t it?

On this we will finish today and next time we will continue the topic: “When Jesus will hand over to the Father all the authority given to Him on earth.”
