Lagos State Government Includes 14 Countries On COVID-19 Checklist

To curb the devastating COVID-19 pandemic, the Lagos state government has included 14 countries on its COVID-19 checklist.

This was announced on Wednesday, May 12, by the state health commissioner Akin Abayomi.

Abayomi, who explained that travelers from other countries to Lagos were divided into three groups: red countries, amber countries and green countries, added that the state government is defining measures that will guide the handling of passengers of interest on entry (POI) from other countries.

The red countries are India, Brazil and Turkey, where new variants of COVID-19 are causing an increase in infection rates.

Amber countries are Canada, USA, France, Germany, Netherlands, Togo, Ghana, Cameroon, Angola, South Africa, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania and Rwanda.

Green countries are countries in which there is no registration of variants from red countries and there is no clear increase in the number of confirmed cases on a daily basis.

Abayomi added;

“Our protocol for handling passengers arriving from red countries will include a mandatory PCR test 72 hours before departure, a PCR test after arrival, and 14 days of isolation at a government-approved facility at the expense of the passenger.

“Passengers from amber countries of interest must also undergo a PCR test 72 hours before departure, a PCR test after arrival and a mandatory seven-day home isolation, which will be monitored by our logistics, surveillance and EkoTELEMED teams.”
