Lekki Killings, A Massacre – Bukola Saraki

I ask the government to stop shelling the protesters by the security forces. We must show great patience, moderation, and compassion in responding to the requests of these young people.

We must do whatever is necessary to protect them and interact with them on all matters. Please allow me to stop firing and a fruitful dialogue will begin.

It is wrong to kill our little helpless children under any circumstances. Period. The killing of our children is also killing our future as a nation. We have to get back to this. Mr. President, this is what needs to be done. I invite you to do the right thing.

I am appalled by the use of deadly force against #EndSARS protesters at the Lecchi toll station in Lagos. My heart is bleeding for this country. It is sad and disappointing that this is happening. These are peaceful young people protesting to express legitimate concerns.

It is unacceptable for any government to use weapons against its youth. What happened to Lekki today is nothing but a massacre.

This harassment and extrajudicial killings of Nigerians must end immediately and the security personnel who carried out the event must be brought to justice. No life of a young Nigerian taking part in a peaceful protest deserves to be taken.

This is not the Nigeria we hope to leave for the next generation. Our youth is the future.

Dialogue is the only logical option in the current situation, not violence. The dialogue can take longer and can be frustrating. However, as a leading country in the community of nations, violent silence by young protesters may not be an option.
